Unfortunately, the bug to setup a PXE environment, loaded with diagnostics, utilities, antivirus, etc... had been planted, and I couldn't let the idea go. I've never set one up,...

Android OCR notes

Looking into writing an android app that can scan some simple test and process it. Some solutions require installation of the android ndk in addition to the sdk. The native development kit (ndk) allows you to compile languages like C++ into a native .so library.

The ndk is required to get a shared library build for the Tesseract OCR engine. ref: tesseract ocr project at code.google. You may be able to find prebuilt binaries if lucky. You'll need the GCC compiler and cygwin to...

Posted 11-21-2012 at 09:54 PM by the dsc (linux-related notes)
Updated 11-21-2012 at 09:59 PM by the dsc

The "standard" alternatives are a static xorg.conf, and perhaps figuring hal/udev rules, which I don't know how to do.

Another way to do it is via xsetwacom, explicitly setting the active area along the lines of:...

Dance with the Devil: UEFI: Getting MS to sign our Pre-bootloader

Posted 11-21-2012 at 01:50 PM by hydraMax (Bits and Pixels)

Found this hilarious, and sickening, link on Slashdot:

http://blog.hansenpartnership.com/ad...-uefi-signing/

It's an article written by the poor guy who is trying to get the Linux Foundation's pre-bootloader signed by Microsoft, so we all can install Linux on Microsoft-approved hardware (without disabling UEFI secure boot manually). Describes all the steps he had to go through, compromises he had to make, and agreements he had to sign in the process....
