Using Photorec for recovering Photos/MP3/Videos/ Office files

Install Test Disk from Synaptic package Manager.
open terminal then
$ sudo photorec
You will asked to choose HD drive fromwhere files are to be recovered

While using Photorec there is an option for file types to be recorved.
For recovering photos use JPEG file option and disable all other file types.(for recovering MP3 files choose MP3 option and disable all other filetypes)
With this the size of recup directories (in Home folder) will be manageble...

Crunchbang Linux Install Vaio Pro 13

Got this laptop new to replace an older Lenovo Thinkpad X220. Mine is the Core i7 4500U with a 256 GB hard drive, but nothing here should be different in other versions besides drive partition sizes. It was kind of a bear to install, so I thought I'd post a write up here that might be useful to others.

Install the latest kernel (3.12-rc7) for Ubuntu/Debian 32 bit systems

I have compiled yet another Ubuntu/Debian kernel for 32 bit systems. This time kernel 3.12.0-1-exton, equivalent to Kernel.org’s latest kernel 3.12.0-rc6, released 131027.

ExTiX 13 with Gnome 3.10 (latest version) and kernel 3.12.0-0-exton

ExTiX 13 64 bit version 131031 is based on Ubuntu 13.10 released on October 17, 2013. The original system includes the Desktop Environment Unity (Ubuntu). After removing Unity I have installed Gnome 3.10 and Gnome Classic 3.10 (a perfect replacement for Cinnamon). The system language is English.

Used KERNEL
My special kernel 3.12.0-0-exton corresponding Kernel.org’s kernel 3.12-rc6. The original Ubuntu kernel is 3.11-0-generic. Read more about kernel 3.12.0-0-exton…

Simple script to delete last n lines

This may be possible using a single command but a very small and simple script though.Here we are deleting last 3 lines from a file.

#!/bin/bash
#Assign the number of lines to be deleted to variable "a"
a=3
i=1
while [ $i -le $a ]
do
sed -i '$d' file
i=$(($i + 1))
done
