I always used to think Windows was the only system where you could learn music! But over time I have come to realize just how great Linux is. I found a program called "NtEd" which is basically a program for writing music score. I discovered that not only does it allow you to write music but it allows you to download any free midi and import it into NtEd, and by doing so you can see the music score! Fixed disappearing eth0... maybe?

Posted 03-30-2009 at 03:43 PM by shannonbay

I added the following lines to /etc/rc.d/rc.modules:
Code:
alias eth0 tg3
modprobe tg3
Will see whether that works - eth0 has stayed put through two reboots.

Not much success with the graphics adapter yet. Got it from here:

Fixed sound for my regular users (sound worked fine for root in KDE). Was a simple matter of adding user to group audio, which I did through KUser.

Posted 03-30-2009 at 01:41 PM by shannonbay

So it turns out Slack 12.2 didn't really fix the card. However I found a driver (tg3) on Hardware4Linux.info so will try modprobe -vv tg3 next time eth0 disappears. Not sure if I would need to do anything else. If all else fails, perhaps it's a firmware issue as suggested.

Have downloaded the ATI vga module, will set that up later.

I forgot to mention that I figured out how to make lilo boot straight into Slackware - just comment out 'prompt' in lilo.conf and then...
