who are destroying your freedom. (Not to mention the moral fabric of society, but that's another subject.) Stop paying for the movies of the Godless freedom-haters, who are leveraging every trick in the book to destroy the Internet and to take control of what you can do with your own hardware.

If I might be a bit more incendiary: Give up Netflix. I scrapped my Netflix Roku box over a year...

UserAgent Stupidity

Posted 03-21-2013 at 01:04 PM by rocket357 (Musings on technology, philosophy, and life in the corporate world)

I've been using mutt for the longest time now. I love mutt.

Unfortunately, sometimes I still have to use my company's Outlook webmail for whatever reason. I've used it on my wife's Windows 7 machine to fire off a quick response email (I really hate typing on my iphone's keyboard) to a critical update (or whatever), so imagine my surprise when I fired up Outlook webmail on my OpenBSD machine and was given a choice between using the "Light" (i.e. complete crap unusable)...

kde apps under XFCE

Posted 03-20-2013 at 03:05 PM by davetesc

Having to resort to using XFCE and LXDE as KDE ( my favourite ) is a bit heavy for my no so new laptop, I still use kaffeine, kate and kwrite, this is normally fine but after installing mint14 XFCE and then the above trio of kde apps I found that kaffeine failed with "Cannot open the SQLite database" and both kate and kwrite would crash when I clicked on the open file button.

Running kaffeine from the cli gave a load of errors relating to permission errors in .kde folder....

I’ve made a new version (130318) of exGENT, which is based on Gentoo. The old version of exGENT is from 130215. My new exGENT Linux live system uses LXDE as Desktop Environment and “my special” genkernel 3.7.10-gentoo-exton. LXDE is used because of its speed. Quite new is that I’ve found a suitable installation program, in which a Grub installation (Grub Legacy) is included. I’ve also added more support för Atheros and Broadcom wireless cards in version 130318.

The best thing with...

A New Security Term to Add to Your Mental Library:

Posted 03-16-2013 at 03:28 PM by Nbiser

Security plays a pivotal role in our society. Without security our computer systems would fall part and money would be lost. Good passwords are an essential part of this infrastructure. As most of you know, good passwords should be long, and have a good mix of characters, letters, and numbers. Example: a9&dd4$Fd is pretty good, while 123 is not good. The new term I would like to introduce is the "Rip Van Winkle Aproach." The idea behind this ideology is to make such a long password...
