This is My first blog entry. To start off: this blog will be about running Gentoo on 2 boxes. 1) a desktop(AMD64), and 2) a Mythtv/server box. I will post all my issues/problems with upgrading the box and implementing new features.

As of now, I have this working:
Weather Script to graph data that was retrieved from a Davis WeatherPro Plus
DVB script to gather data on signal levels and graph it
Expect Geeky Gentoo...

Fedora 6 x64 frysk yum issue

I had a problem with updating frysk using the gui. I think it was a compatability problem with x64 versus 32 bit. I first installed the base and used the update process and I got a dependency problem to solve this problem I removed and resinstalled frysk and it cleared up.
I am now bug free after getting rid of another problem with FC6 x64 with the cursor dissappearing.
To solve the fysk problem try.
issue command--->yum remove frysk

then issue command --->yum...

Setting up an analog Joystick with SB Live! Gameport in Mandriva 2007.0

I have an SB Live! sound card which includes a MIDI / Game port. A generic analog joystick is connected to the game port. I run Mandriva 2007.0 (Official), although the following procedure should work for any distribution with a 2.6 kernel. I calibrated the joystick with KDE's joystick component (KCC / Peripherals / Joystick).
My first step was to identify the module needed for my game port. I opened MCC / Hardware / Look at and Configure the Hardware - Game Port...

So Much for Ubuntu

Well - that was kinda disappointing. I got loads of good advice about how to install new stuff onto an Ubuntu system (thanks to one and all!) but none of it seemed to work for me: the 'alien' program wasn't there so I burned a CD with the right Ubuntu package ("Edgy"?). I played around with the Package Manager thing and was able to read the CD from it. When I tried to install all the things I wanted, it complained that I wasn't connected to the Internet! Why did I go through all the...
