Athlon64X2 + Xpress 200 Upgrade equates to Uplate

Posted 12-15-2005 at 04:06 AM by carl0ski

I Recently ploped down the cash on a MS-RS482M4 to accomidate a Athlon 64 X2.
Replacing an honourable Athlon XP (may its ashes rest in peace)

I installed Mandriva 2006 X86_64 on my new beast with a few hiccups.

First for some bizarre reason the Kernel on the install disc doesnt boot past IDE and SATA controllers unless
# noapic
is passed to the kernel like so
# linux noapic

that isnt a big deal however whenever noapic is passed...

Athlon 64 are so Fast even the time flies by.

Posted 12-15-2005 at 03:52 AM by carl0ski

an issue floating around with some Athlon 64 processors

the date wizzes by rapidly
what a nightmare
imagine waking up 9 december and seeing it is December 26
arghhhhhhhh crap!

My Resolution:
took a hell of lot experimenting but
append
'no_timer_check notsc' to your Bootloader

(/etc/lilo.conf) mine looks like this
image=/boot/vmlinuz
label="linux"
root=/dev/hda5

switch to new hard drive

Posted 12-14-2005 at 07:33 PM by divukman

Aloha,

Let's say you have a new hard drive and want to transfer all files from your
old one, including your fancy linux system. No problem, no problem at all,
but there's nothing I can do about it ? ahha :) not quite...

I'll write a bit more thorough tutorial, but here are just basic steps for
now.

1. Plug the drive :) who would have guessed, if it's ata then take the
jumper off and put the jumper on the old drive to slave,...

Randomness - Linux on the Treo 650

Posted 12-13-2005 at 05:06 PM by microsoft/linux

I was surfing engadget today, and I found this. Being the proud owner of a Sharp Zaurus SL-5500, I couldn't help but think "Awesome". Does this mean linux will become more and more prevalent(aside fromt the fact that it already is, in the desktop market)? I know Palm is planning a mobile phone OS based on linux, but native linux on the Treo 650 is pretty cool.

Ok, that's all I've got today.

Upgrading to KDE 3.5 succesfuly done!

Posted 12-13-2005 at 02:03 PM by vangelis

Yeehhaa! I gotta say YaST was some of my favourite tools but today trying to upgrade KDE I found out that my hands were tied with YaST. Of course I was lucky that I already had installed apt-get for SuSE, a really good app I gotta say..
