A new 64 bit version of exGENT (gentoo) live is ready!

I’ve made a third version of exGENT 2013. Now with LXDE and kernel 3.9.2-gentoo-exton. Version 130521 is for the 64 bit architecture. I’ve kept my two previous versions 20130423 and 20130415 on Sourceforge.net. The old versions are for the 32 bit architecture.

exGENT 64 bit version 130521 is in very good shape. Yesterday I could run the following commands without problems:

# emerge –ask –update –newuse –deep –with-bdeps=y @world
# emerge –depclean
# revdep-rebuild...

Solaris 11.1 live ISO -- boot from USB

Posted 05-22-2013 at 01:23 PM by kostya

OK, another blog post to remind myself -- and maybe somebody else, who knows? -- of how I finally did it.

Yes, from time to time I install other Unix OS's just in order to stay plugged in. The last FreeBSD 9.1 on ZFS was installed to double boot with my current Fedora 18 installation. GRUB2 boots both, it's become really universal now, and this allows to get more familiar with ZFS and its advantages -- which are quite impressing. Well, since Wheezy officially came out a couple of weeks ago, I decided to upgrade my squeeze install this weekend. Upgrading worked pretty well overall, but I'm left with a bunch of little annoyances that leave me wondering if I should just put up with them or reinstall. I'm wondering if anyone out there has fixed any of these.

Gnome 3 was a bit of a surprise. Luckily it was easy to enable classic mode for my work user. My home user is learning to deal with the new interface but...

A new version of Exton-Slack 14.0 is ready!

Posted 05-18-2013 at 01:55 AM by exton (Exton's Blog)

Exton-Slack current is a new remaster of Slackware 14.0/current 64bit. KDE 4.10.3 (released 130507) is used as Desktop Environment. I have compiled the kernel 3.8.7 in the same way that Slackware’s kernel huge is compiled. This means that there are a lot of native support for modern hardware in “my” kernel 3.8.7-exton. Even more than what is available in Slackware’s original kernel huge. This is my third Slackware system for 64bit computers. Furthermore I have installed Grub2, which can be used...

How to Install Cinnamon 1.8 on ubuntu 13.04

Posted 05-17-2013 at 10:52 AM by sridhar11

Cinnamon is a user interface. It is a fork of GNOME Shell, initially developed by (and for) Linux Mint. It attempts to provide a more traditional user environment based on the desktop metaphor, like GNOME 2. Cinnamon uses Muffin, a fork of the GNOME 3 window manager Mutter, as its window manager from Cinnamon 1.2 onwards
