Supermicro X11SSV-Q and fan speed control

Posted Today at 04:23 AM by catkin

Keywords: Supermicro X11SSV-Q lmsensors pwmconfig fancontrol

Only FAN1 and FAN2 are controllable and they are both controlled by /sys/devices/platform/nct6775.2608/hwmon/hwmon1/pwm2.

This found when running Debian 8 Jessie and experimenting by writing directly to the /sys/devices/platform/nct6775.2608/hwmon/hwmon1/pwm[1-3] files

There are four fan headers, FAN[1-4], but kernel module nct6775 creates only /sys/devices/platform/nct6775.2608/hwmon/hwmon1/pwm[1-3]...

Script to watch potentially misbehaving processes and kill them if needed

Tags cpu, hang, kill

A second adaptation of an adaptation of this script:
http://searchenterpriselinux.techtar...sses-with-Bash

The original adaptation was supposed to put any misbehaving process under cpulimit leashes, I'm not sure it's working properly. I've made a more radical implementation intended for programs that are more likely to misbehave and probably hang with high cpu, when killing them after a while seems to be a good idea.

I think...

Run your Ubuntu/Debian 64 bit system with the latest kernel – 4.8.0-rc8!

Posted 09-29-2016 at 03:02 PM by exton (Exton's Blog)

I have compiled yet another Ubuntu/Debian kernel for 64 bit systems. This time kernel 4.8.0-18-exton, equivalent to Kernel.org’s latest kernel 4.8.0-rc8 released 160926.

What’s new in Linux kernel 4.8?

Install kernel 4.8.0-18-exton in Ubuntu/Debian based distributions
My self-compiled Ubuntu kernels can be used in all types of modern Ubuntu systems, including Mint. They can even be used in Debian Jessie (Debian 8.6) and Debian Stretch (upcoming Debian 9)....

Visitors but no comments... (??)

Posted 09-28-2016 at 07:58 AM by danrevell (Linux 001)

Strange... most blogs are rife with clueless flamers, high-schoolers trying to sound like professors, actual professors droning on and on (off-topic), and even an occasional contribution of merit. I see that we have had several visitors here but no one leaving comments, contributions, or even off-topic drift. Hmmmmmmm.....
The first reason that springs to my paranoid mind is that which almost deterred me from starting this in the first place: a blog is worse than a waste of time when it...
