Runit or s6...

Posted 07-08-2014 at 11:33 PM by ReaperX7

To date, I've been working with Runit to introduce a new type of init system to GNU/Linux. In retrospect Runit has worked wonderfully minus some tedious bugs with partition dismounts.

Runit has worked wonderfully as an init and I can only hope that it keeps getting better than better. It's stable and is very unintrusive.

All it needs are a mountain of service scripts to fuel it and with a symlink to the proper directory, off it goes.

I couldn't have asked...

3 Days and now Stand-alone LFS.

Posted 10-08-2013 at 10:57 PM by ReaperX7

Yes, I deleted my old LFS install and use SalixOS Live 13.37 disk to install my system from the ground up alongside Windows.

It took some extra work, but it's completed, partially. I still have a few extra packages to add using a chroot entry from SalixLive before I can natively access it correctly, but so far all is well.

I had to completely import Debian's os-prober with a modified installation using the Slackware SlackBuild script as a guide, but it worked and both...

Milestone in progress.

Posted 09-25-2013 at 06:40 PM by ReaperX7

Today I successfully installed Midori Browser into Xfce and have Xfce set as my default desktop environment using startx. This for me is a huge milestone because now I can graphically surf the web and work on LFS equally.

However, I have hit a snag with Parole Media Player. It doesn't work, so if anyone can help me with the bug, please do as I have a post in the LFS section regarding it.

If all things proceed as planned, I aim to have a few more packages added soon...

Got X11 working.

Posted 09-17-2013 at 09:07 PM by ReaperX7

Finished the main chapter of X-Windows for BLFS today and fired up the twm (tiling window manager) that is more or less a very basic desktop environment with a few X-Terminals (xterm) open, and got a few more packages built.

I'm now working on the X Forms Common Environment (Xfce) UI to give me a basic desktop environment to work from and after that I'll be looking into the Xfce applications as well.
