I've changed the domain name of my site

Posted 07-15-2013 at 05:53 AM by Pyplate

I was using a free domain name supplied by noip.com, the dynamic DNS provider that I use. This looked unprofessional, and it was hurting my search engine ranking.

I bought a new domain name, and instead of using a dynamic DNS service, I just pointed it to my external IP. My ISP is known for hardly ever changing people's IP address. It's a risk to not use a dynamic DNS service, but I think it's a small risk.

My site currently uses a CMS that I've written myself....

I've written some more articles, and made a lot of progress on my CMS

Posted 07-08-2013 at 02:34 PM by Pyplate

I've added more pages to my Raspberry Pi web site. I've added a contact page and an article about building a remote control tank. The tank has Raspberry Pi with Apache running on it, and it connects to my home network using wifi.

I've also been working on the back end of my CMS. I've gotten to a point where I can add pages, change content in the head, banner and footer sections using the back end. There's a page where I can edit CSS and I've also added a script to do back ups....

Finished coding my Python login system

Posted 06-21-2013 at 06:19 AM by Pyplate

I've more or less finished coding the login system for my CMS. Now I just need to configure Apache to use SSL for the Admin area. Once I've done that, I can focus on the back end. I've built a page that allows you to edit posts, but it's very basic at the moment. I also need to create a page where users can edit site settings, and I need to make a page where users can list pages and categories. I've got a lot to do, but I'm making good progress.

Traffic to my Raspberry Pi web site...

I got the load balancer working pretty easily. The changes to apache2.conf are pretty straight forwards.

I'll do a detailed write up on that at some point, but in the mean time, here are two sites that have useful information on load balancing:

I haven't put the load balancer in place yet because I'm not getting enough...

Raspberry Pi web server

Posted 06-13-2013 at 02:10 PM by Pyplate

I signed up to LQ a few days ago. I'm going to use this blog to document progress with my various projects.

I'm about a third of the way through writing a CMS in Python. The front end works quite well. It has built-in caching support and some SEO friendly features like meta page descriptions and tags. I've started on the back end, and I have a lot of work to do on it.

I'm hosting a web site on a Raspberry Pi, a small computer with an ARM11 processor running at...
