Hmmm..

Posted 05-28-2012 at 12:36 PM by peonuser

Seems awful convenient that with the alleged hard drive shortage, that prices for drives will go even higher. Sometimes I get the sense that with the price of drives of going up, there is no incentive to retool and produce more drives. There is less cost from having less factories and with more profit per drive becase of demand, therefore there is a doubly wider profit margin. With people addicted to having to have media warehouses to put it nicely, makes the hard drive manufacturers even more greedy....

Hunt the Wumpus.
There are several types of games, but lately adventure games seem to be coming back. The original adventures just required a keyboard. No fancy joysticks and or sound cards to deal with. What is really nice about them is that you can use the same source code more or less on a variety of systems. Sometimes that is known as code portability. People even want to put it on the Arduino (a micro-controller). If you do not have an Arduino, you can still play the original game...

Radar maps gone retro.

Posted 04-24-2012 at 04:26 PM by peonuser

Done a lot of page scraping to get weather details, but it would be nice to use radar screens from the command line. So details in this case are not so necessary. The overall view of the weather to see what kinds of weather fronts are approching is.

The "legacy os" people pride themselves in how they support pentium 3 and pentium 4 systems. Funny. We still use linux on pentium I and pentium II machines.

Thanx to all the people who have viewed http://www.instructables.com/member/computothought/. Over 236,000 views now.

Trying to think of a super simple example of cut and paste for a class. Here is what I came up with:

Play pretend here for a second. You are a new accountant for a company...

Set up the now insignia infocast with chumby 8 software to recieve music from a linux box running gnump3d. Had to run fapg to create an m3u file. Works a lot like a musac. Looking for a linux install so I do not have to depend on a network to allow me to use the unit.

Took the working parts (ram, harddrive from the machine that replaced the server) from my dead server to build another working machine. No more unused atx motherboards....

Started labeling servers: web,...
