Programming is so much fun.

I like to program but sometimes it can be frustrating. First paying programming job was doing rpgii and databus on some Datapoint machines as a maintenance programmer eons ago. Though I do know several languages, I wanted to start using php to access mysql databases. Had lamp servers for many years using canned applications.

I started to write code from books like most people do and all was going fine. Then I hit a roadblock and the code did not work. I looked all over the web and saw people had the same frustration. I wanted to throw the server out the window after making sure the lamp stack was installed right.

Low and behold the grammar or syntax was changed after all the major books and a majority of websites had used the original syntax for examples. So much time wasted. Stubborn as I am, I finally found where some of the commands were no longer used, but did have replacements. I substituted the code and all was well. I can see why people new to programming can throw their arms up in disgust. Wonder what surprises 5.3 has for us. Can also see why people do not want to upgrade.

Such is life and warming myself by burning some php5 books.
