I was thinking about the old game Eliza the therapist, that has been around forever. Might be interesting to update the code with a bit more sophisticated code that used AI. Then of course you have to install sphinx and festival or epeak. If you do all that then you could make a paper mache head using servos to control the mouth and other parts for some interesting fun. Ten times better than the toy on the Craig Fergy show.

I could not see spending $150 or more for an ereader, when I already have a laptop. But I did want a more portable way to use the files. This is what I came up with.

Just a thought....

sudo apt-get install xpdf
# or your equivalent.

pdftotext inputfile.pdf outputfile.txt

# Optional: split the text file into smaller portions if you want to.

text2wave < outputfile.txt > file.wav

# test file

Doing some duplicate instructables for both linux and mswindows xp. Unfortunately, I ran out of space on the minuscule 6 gig hard drive xp box. Have a larger drive to image to, but that project is not critical. It can wait.

Reactos is not too bad of an alternative for older computers for an operating system. It's free and a lot of mswindows open source software will run on it. People can also use what they already know as an intermediate step to linux.

Started writing the routines (as I have spare time) for the choreography of the computer controlled light strings on the Xmas tree. Everything from Kitt (the tv car) to just random display of lights. I have about twenty ideas so far but have only coded five or six. If I could have about forty would be optimum. Since I am using the parallel port to control the strings, lots of simple binary is involved. Still have to do all the soldering for the set up.

Almost that time of year.

Ordered more temp sensors. Might as well since they are free. The first set should be here tomorrow.

Reluctantly, set up a mswinxp machine as a home automation controller. Had to recompile some control code. The web side was pretty much plug and play.

An old ladder and some dead motherboards are about to make a maybe geeky xmas tree?

It's turkey chili night!
