Florida vacation

Hi,

Back and rested after my extended Florida vacation. My wife and I decided to become snow birds. We are purchasing a home in a 55+ community southwest of Orlando at Polo Park East. My wife informed me we were going to leave in December/16 for our next vacation. She did not want another Christmas without the Grandchildren (5 live in Florida now). We looked at the the costs for our several vacations to Florida and decided it was best to purchase a nice home in a 55+ community with a Golf course(my decision/suggestion)

So we have made a purchase and will leave Illinois in early Nov or late Oct and not return until sometime in April/17 or at the latest in May/17. I even got a great deal on a Club Car golf cart. Bought on the spot and will be stored at the new home by the cart seller. He asked if he could use the cart until their return to Illinois in April/16. I said "Sure, you have taken good care of it so far and see no reason not to allow you the use". Buying a home in Illinois is a lot easier than in Florida. But Florida does provide some great allowances for seniors among other perks. I may become a permanent Florida resident and keep my home in Illinois for a while. I will certainly need to downsize, got too much stuff. When we moved from the farm into town I thought we had downsized but there is still a lot of stuff.

I just will not stay here beyond 89 days. So that will dictate when I leave for Florida this year. I like Illinois but the winters are wearing on me and the warmth of Florida is a lot better in December than here in Illinois. The El Nino this year provided a warmer climate here in Illinois but that won't last long.

I do enjoy playing golf in the middle of winter and Florida's winters are milder yet a little wet but that is why you have curtains on the Golf cart for the die hard golfers. 60-70 degree days is a lot better than freezing your butt off here in Illinois. I did get to play Golf the week before Christmas here in Illinois last year, it was in the 60's. We would have played more but the course manager closed the course to us so maintenance could be done before the freeze.

I have not played since leaving Florida. Our Senior group starts playing the end of March. Hopefully, I have not waited too long between outings.

Got to get off here, the corned beef is ready and need to get the cabbage & potato boiling so lunch can be served. Think I will just go to the store to get some soda bread since I am anxious to get into that corned beef.

BTW, Happy St Patrick's day! Go Irish! I'm married to a Irish girl and boy it can be a challenge. Those of you that know some Irish women understand my situation. Irish eyes smiling!

Springs here and love in the air!

Have fun & enjoy!

Sounds like fun. I did Florida as a run away in my teenage years in Tampa and Orlando. Probably a lot has changed by then.

I set my Mom up in Sun City in Phoenix Arizona. It is a senior citizen city with it's own hospitals, golf courses, Malls. Residents drive their golf carts on the streets like cars. The laws are geared towards senior citizens.

I know also what you mean by downsizing. I rented the biggest ryder truck and car trailer and loaded up Mom's 20 acre chicken farm house and barn and left 50% behind for the farm buyer. Selling the farm bought the house in Sun City.

My plans are to stay on the Mexican Border till I die. Nice and warm. Lot's of good food and beer. Good people. We have a desert golf course, but being a scooter tramp. I never played the game. Just caddied as a kid.

Enjoy Florida. I don't handle humidity real good and hate skeeters = (mosquito).
The desert does not have a whole lot of either one. Also. Bicycle and motorcycle riding weather is the bomb down here also and the roads are empty of big city traffic. Just expanses for miles.

I am envious. My mom and dad live northwest of Orlando in Tavares. I wish I could live there too. At the moment I am doing the traveling backwards. I spend not quite two weeks in Florida in late July and early August. I do yard and household jobs for my folks. The heat never bothers me unless I'm in full sun. Kansas weather is nicer than Illinois. We have more sun, but the cold just wears on me.
