I really get cranky about free Apple adverts that seem to be popping up everywhere. I was inspired to finally complain when the on-line version of "Discovery" magazine used "iPad" in a headline to attract attention to a story about foldable LED screens. There was an obviously crammed in sentence that introduced the iPad as a possible beneficiary of this "new" (no it isn't) tech. The actual story was about soft, folding screens.

But everywhere I turn: NPR, all my podcasts, everyone: iPhone this and iPad that and iPod this and I am really wondering how Apple can afford all the subsidies they must be paying out to get this free advertising. Oh, You say they don't pay anything????? What the hell happened to Capitalism?

I remember back in the dark ages when people started to wear clothes with little alligators on them. It was so stupid. Why, the old men in my world asked, would anyone PAY MONEY to advertise someone else's stuff? I mean, buy a shirt that is just a walking advertisement for a clothing company? STUPID!!! Now, it is impossible to buy clothes that don't advertise.

What does this portend for the future? Perhaps everything will be branded and the only difference will be between the pirated brand and the "real thing." (Of course, living here in pirate heaven--- the Peoples Republic of China-- I know that the "pirates" are made in the same factory as the "real thing." Just at different times. Oh silly you thought there was a difference? Well there sometimes is, that is what makes life worth living, finding the good pirates.)

My friend Lee just bought a new "Dell" laptop. twice the specs for the same as base price. How does that work? well, Dell buys that same stuff as the pirates do, the only difference is the shell. Pirate heaven. My friend Crystal just bought a new Sony netbook for $225 US, It looks like a Sony, but we all know the truth. The future is here....

So this leads me back to the iPhone and its kindred. We already have tons of iPhonies here, coming soon will be iPaddies, along with the iPoddies. We know from the Foxconn suicides where this stuff is made, so I know I can buy it here. (Cue the Lion King theme song please) So while NPR is pimping Apple products they are actually feeding the pirates here in Asia because the consumer craving they create get satified here by the pirate factories which is to say, what Foxconn does after hours.

The final sally in this? More people own iPhonies here in China than own iPhones in the US. More people own iPoddies in China than own iPods in the US. More people will own iPaddies here in China....... get the picture: And who will scream for trade protection when the pirates start to sneak in from here to you over there. HAHAHAHAHA, my evil plan for world domination paid for by the consumers of that domination.
