Kubuntu 10.4 on HP Pavilion dv3 laptop. I bought 8 DVD software library because not on Internet at home, and cannot build the index to use this repo, because KPackageKit says Error, Cannot mount CD-ROM. KPackageKit is a tremendous disappointment all around, especially after Synaptics Package Manager was piercingly good, and has vanished.

The file managers and K3b are mounting DVDs. There is no /etc/fstab line for it.

Brand-new installation, Asus 9rp laptop: SUSE 11.1. Problem: screen dims, as last step of boot-up. It virtually cannot be seen. New OS looks startlingly good, cannot be enjoyed until fixed.

This must be a KPowersave laptop setting. I fixed it once with PowerDevil...and once i accidentally booted on DC power and the screen stayed bright. When i can face it, i'll have to fix this on DC power.

Meanwhile i've lost my mind, because using cognition for highest Consciousness...and...

South Australian public libraries are unsecured sites with wireless Internet, but i don't know the Linux settings that will let my SUSE 11 laptop connect. Your help ... is so lovely. Thank you for the Linux "good-heart" (Dalai Lama's term doesn't need any definition).
