This is the first "blog" of any kind I've ever had, so it's probably not the greatest...

Just a little snippet about me:

I'd like to consider myself relatively tech-savvy; obviously I use Linux (Arch to be precise; K.I.S.S. FTW), and I enjoy learning new things about computers in general (both software and hardware-related).

This blog is mostly just for whenever I feel like telling the world about my experiences with computers/Linux (or just life in general), or just posting for the hell of it.

Culture shock, maybe?

Maybe I'm just stereotyping (and please forgive me if I am), but I get the impression that many programmers are very...err...shall we say "negative" when it comes to the old "free will vs. determinism" thing, i.e. they tend to lean towards the latter...

To me this is perfectly understandable: if you're doing something like programming, you've got to have a very logical mindset, and I suppose that if you applied this mindset to life in general, it would tend to...

Apology re: problems leaking out into forums

Updated 12-28-2010 at 08:29 PM by MrCode

I've decided that I'm going to either a) take a break from LQ for a while (and I really mean it this time), or b) try to actually contribute more useful content to the forums (I've been spending way too much time in /General lately ).

I figure that if I'm going to be posting anything about religion/faith, existentialism, philosophy, or whatever other topics that I find "sensitive", it'll be either here (in this blog) or just not at all.

So I'd like to just...

An Old Toy

Updated 12-28-2010 at 08:30 PM by MrCode

I was wrong about my Arch lappy being my first laptop...I found an old toy "laptop" of mine that was laying around in some boxes of my old toys from when I was in my single-digits/early tweens. It's one of those "educational/learning" toys...

Here's a shot comparing my real lappy with the toy:

Unfortunately, however, it doesn't work anymore. I had done some (more...

An amusing take on my whole "free will or not" problem

Updated 12-28-2010 at 08:31 PM by MrCode

This is just something I wrote a little while ago to challenge two things: the reasons behind my existential angst, and my C skills (well, pseudo-C ):

Somwehere buried deep in the source code of mankind...

Code:
int FreeWillCheck(Human* h,char* emotion)
{
	int status = 0; //assume free will exists for now

	if(FreeWillExists() == 0 && //if free will exists
	   FreeWillBelief(h) == 0)  //and you believe free will exists

I feel spoiled with binaries...

(Yay, something more technically oriented for a change! )

As the title says, I think I've been spoiled by binaries and package managers...

You people are probably going to think I'm nuts, but I've been trying to get Neverball to compile in an OpenIndiana VM that I've set up. Yes, that's right, I'm trying to get a stupid game to compile on an experimental OS (it's that new "spork" of OpenSolaris. I don't know why I care, I just wondered what a UNIX-like...
