This is the first "blog" of any kind I've ever had, so it's probably not the greatest...

Just a little snippet about me:

I'd like to consider myself relatively tech-savvy; obviously I use Linux (Arch to be precise; K.I.S.S. FTW), and I enjoy learning new things about computers in general (both software and hardware-related).

This blog is mostly just for whenever I feel like telling the world about my experiences with computers/Linux (or just life in general), or just posting for the hell of it.

I want to rant, but can't

Posted 04-02-2011 at 03:27 PM by MrCode

I just got done writing one of those "everything is predetermined/life is meaningless" posts...why isn't it up here, then? Because I know that nobody who even visits the LQ blog section regularly wants to see it anymore. I save them locally to my hard disk, though, just for some kind of weird posterity.

I guess the point is taken: if I want help with those issues, I'm gonna need to seek it from someplace other than the 'net...it's just that I've become way too comfortable with venting here and hoping for advice; I don't know what else to do.

I hardly touch this blog anyway. Why? It's mostly because all I ever want to post anymore is those stupid rants...well, there are other reasons as well, but that's a big part of it.

Short entry, but I'm depressed anyway, so I don't really care...

Are you in some job, or school/college? I guess you are not, that's the reason you have the time to think about the predeterminism etc. And as they say - An empty mind is a devil's workshop!

I know you are not going to listen, but still, one more time I'll tell you that you are wasting every minute of your life, thinking about something which you can't change irrespective of the fact that you are right or wrong.

You have friends/girl-friends? What do they think about all this, BTW?

It's not like I'm thinking about that stuff 24/7, and in fact lately it's gotten a lot better, but for whatever reason I got really pissed today...I don't even know what got me so worked up.

Well, I have a friend I regularly correspond with via IM, but we don't discuss the matter (in fact we try to avoid it).

...and a girlfriend? LOL. I'd be too shy to approach/ask a girl about that kind of a relationship...

    <sigh> Yeah, I know...

Suffice it to say that I won't be posting about that sh*t here anymore. I really won't. Anymore, if I feel like doing that, I'll probably just stow it away somewhere on my hard disk if I don't want to just delete it altogether.

From now on I'll try to keep whatever I put here positive (or at least, non-existential).

EDIT: I've even changed my blog description to reflect this change in attitude.

Shave your beard off [girls like clean men].
If you have a female friend, get closer to her, I don't mean physical relations and all, I just mean if you have someone more important to you than yourself in your life, then you'll have better things to worry about.

This is your blog, you are free to post here anything you like, but then you should also write as a heading in your blog that you are not going to listen to any commentator posting here, so that people do not waste their time suggesting things to you.

While quoting others make an effort to write the name of the quoter. It is difficult to figure out otherwise to whom you are responding.

Actually, I think there's an option to disallow comments altogether (not sure though ). However, I think it'd just be better if I didn't post that stuff here at all; it's just depressing, and I know nobody really wants to read it.

I apologize if this is confusing, but my quoting format goes like this: if I'm quoting the person directly above me, then I assume that it's implied that I'm responding to them. Otherwise, I quote them by name.

If I'm responding to multiple quotes from a single person's post, I'll refer to the first one by name, and all successive ones by that user will be without the username. This also ties in with the first rule, so you may see that I'm responding to multiple quotes from the post directly above mine without referring to the user by name. This very comment is an example.

That means you want the people to read them but at the same time you also want them to shut their mouth up.

I think because LQ is like a small family and people know each other here, so they want you to get out of this mess, I find many people did respond in detail to your blog and the thread, but you refuse to read!

Another thing, it's that you post them like you want help and are complaining about your beliefs. If you really wanted a discussion out of it (instead of help) then you wouldn't complain about what you think you believe but refuse to accept it as an answer. Some people, my self included, enjoy discussions on topics that ultimately have no effect on our ability to change it one way or the other or even acknowledge that it's truth.

Well, I guess therein lies the problem; I guess I'm bigoted towards one side of the debate, when in actuality it's still quite undecided (at least for now). I feel so convinced of one side, but I hate it, so I go starting "discussions" about the topic that are really just cries for help. ...not trying to start a discussion again, I'm just stating that I think I've found at least part of the problem: my "worldview", if you will, is undecided one way or the other WRT the whole free will/determinism thing, and I'm just trying to get people to convince me that either a) determinism isn't such a horrific loss, or b) that free will does exist.

Maybe I should just either a) not post that stuff here, like I said, or b) just admit that it's a cry for help and not an academic debate.

In an effort to try and keep debate to a minimum, I won't be responding to further replies to this post, so feel free to reply, but don't expect another response from me.
