Using Local Copy Of Install Disks In Fedora Core 5

Posted 03-29-2007 at 06:33 PM by mortovski

FC5 doesn't read from the install disks by default, which is a *complete* pain if you're on dialup!

Here's how to get it working:

1) Create a local folder (let's call it Install).
2) Within that folder create a folder called RPMS.
2) Copy the contents of the RPMS folder on each CD to the RPMS folder. It will moan about overwriting a file called TRANS.TBL but don't worry about that.
3) Copy the comps.xml from the REPODATA folder on the first CD to the Install folder (not the RPMS folder).
4) Ensure you have the createrepo package installed.
5) Then run createrepo -g comps.xml .
6) Edit one of the files in /etc/yum.repos.d/ and add:

file:///path/to/the/INSTALL/folder
(Make sure you use 3 /// after file).

run pirut or yum to install your packages
