And it begins...

Posted 05-18-2006 at 01:19 PM by kf4otn

So, with a half working box I begin my RHCT course work. First step, move the box from my office to my house, after all it is called homework. Get the computer home and boot it up. It goes through the POST and begins the process of starting all the services and whatnot to get RH running. I turn my head away from the computer and begin reading some of the RHCT book. Just then I heard that familar light crackling sound of the monitor turning off. I look over and sure enough the monitor has gone to sleep. I wiggle the mouse and pounce on the keyboard to no avail!

After reinstalling the OS, again, and finding a recurring problem I decide it has to be the box. In a panic I begin madly searching for a computer that I had received many moons ago and had never done anything with. I locate the IBM Personal Computer 300 and swap the HDD. Boot up... finds new hardware... updates all the changes... works beautifully! So now I have an IBM Personal Computer 300 sitting on my desk running RH Enterprise. :) Did I mention with crippled RAM? Yeah.

So I start working on my workbook. I still hadn't grasped the concept of the workbooks that were due so I decided to see what was going on. Unfortunately I found myself in a lab test for workbook 1 where I had only read chapter 1. Scrambling to fix what I had done, I finally completed the lab just minutes before 1AM. I'm still tired. Oh well back to the books...
