Ensure to have matching versions of icedove, iceowl and the funambol plugin. Keep care to only update if matching versions from all 3 components are available! So neither update the plugin to early, nore icedove!
I added "experimental" and the mozilla.debian.net repository to /etc/apt/sources.list. As of 2011-11-13 icedove and iceowl (calendar) 8.0 are available from Debian experimental, and the funambol plugin matching this versions from maurus.net.

Download the .xpi
Download the current .xpi from maurus.net (follow the links and accept the license, don't try to shortcut with a right-click, this would get you an "corrupted .xpi").

Install the .xpi in icedove
Tools
-> Addons (-> Extensions):
-> Click the "Tools for all add-ons" button (left of the "Search all add-ons" box)
-> "Install Add-on From File ..." and select the just downloaded .xpi

Configure the .xpi in icedove
Tools
-> Funambol sync...

      OK (doesn't close the current window, just applies the change
    • Unticked "Tasks"
    • Don't tick "Sync at startup" until you're sure it's working. I ended up with a painful "segmentation fault" on icedove startup. Doing a "rm -rf ~/.icedove/*.default/extensions/syncmlplugin@maurus.net/" unfortunately doesn't remove all plugin configuration, but at least gets you a working icedove without funambol. For me stopping the funambol server allowed to reconfigure the plugin. See https://mozilla-plugin.forge.funambo...&dsForumId=553

To be continued ......

Note: Remove ~/.config/Funambol/ if it's messed up.
Add SSL certificate to system
cd /opt/funambol
sudo ./jre/bin/keytool -genkey -alias tomcat -keyalg RSA
sudo ./jre/bin/keytool -export -alias tomcat -file myroot.cer
