Security issues in opening an archive

I've personally opened hundreds (thousands?) of compressed archives -- tar, zip, and otherwise -- without even thinking of the possibility security ramifications of this action. However, extracting files (insecurely) from any archive has potentially two very dangerous effects:

1. overwriting a file that should not be overwritten
2. placing a file in a location you did not expect

These of course are most deadly in combination. The bsdtar manual page has a helpful...

See source code intermixed with assembly

Maybe everybody else already knows this, but I thought it was pretty neat anyway:

If you compile some C code with -g option (to include debugging symbols), you can then use objdump on the binary, with the -S switch, to get source code intermixed with assembly. For example, here is a snippet from one of my binaries:

Planets

I uploaded some planet images I created using techniques from Gimp tutorials. (link, link). It is a lot of fun to create planets and I'd like to create a lot more in the future. I also updated my Xinequery code, adding a Gentoo ebuild, plus some functionality that should make it a little more useful.
