Running a free Gentoo

Gentoo is overall a great distribution, but unfortunately it is not dedicated to free software with the same determination as distributions like Trisquel and gNewSense. If you have been running Gentoo for a while, but are not familiar with this issue, you may be surprise to learn how much non-free software is in your system, from application software to the kernel.

Haskell shell scripting!

Practical shell scripting AND full-fledged Haskell functional programming at the same time!? Is it really possible to have your cake and eat it too!? I'm sweating with excitement at my recent discovery.

Not only is it possible, but there is a well-developed module that allows you to do shell like programming with Haskell, without losing any of the benefits of the language:

A long time ago I stopped using Java programs because of the proprietary aspect. But I recently tried out Iced Tea on my Gentoo box and it seems to work pretty well, at least with one program, Planet M.U.L.E:

Story: Justice Dept. to defend warrantless cell phone tracking

Hmmm... Giving the U.S. Justice department legal permission to track our movements, via our cellphone signal, 24 hours a day without even mentioning it to a judge... I'm not too sure about that one. Anyone else have doubts?
