How about this? I thought of killing my Fedora (not in a literal sense), just how much damage can it take until all hangs up, without using any scripts or forks or bombs.

Started Vbox with two machines running Mint and Slitaz, and still it was running all happy and fun.

Didn't succeed this time. I think I will put in more VMs with other distros and see how far it goes :p

Ciao.

Bonjour,

I just tried Adobe's put-the-web-on-your-desktop thing called Air and it's pretty neat. It is similar to those widgets, gadgets,..etc but on a grandeur scale. Though still in the infancy as far as application availability is concerned, nonetheless it is a neat platform and it works.

I downloaded it from the site, installed it on my Fedora, browsed (from Firefox) through the application listings at their site, and saved the ones I wanted to my /home. Then used the Adobe Application Installer which was earlier installed from the main app and pointed it to the directory containing the Air apps. A few clicks and tada! all apps installed with desktop shortcuts to launch them.

I tried out two apps, one a video catalogue kinda thing and another a Dutch music TV.

Both worked fine and I was already enjoying the content on my desktop. I'm impressed :D.

Ciao.

Hello holy hell,

I hardly saw this before. So an introductory hi hello salam namaste..

Now today has been a fruitful day, I wanted to put a Linux preferably with codecs and things intact onto an USB in persistent mode for some time now. Finally, Linux Mint 6 got releases a few days back and I set about the task to put it on.

Started off with many tutorials digging Google and ending up on various sites, a prominent one being pendrivelinux.com. However, if you have actually used that site long enough you would have probably seen more than half of the tutorials there need Windows to be used to put Linux on an USB, yes, the irony :p

Eventually, I did the same and did put Mint 6 on the USB but alas as Live!. Then after trekking over a few sites and irc channels, I finally found a tool called usb-creator in Ubuntu. So Mint being based on the same, I used the Live Mint to install it from repo, then connect the USB and created the USB startup disk. Even though I selected the entire span of the USB to be persistent, it didn't work right away. It was still booting as live. Then I found out the golden word "persistent".

Yes, that's it. During the GRUB boot menu, all I had to do was add the keyword "persistent" to the kernel line, OR as you say in the geeky way, passing an argument to the kernel.

Now, /me is all happy and got my own personal Linux in my pocket anywhere I go with imminent data storage.

Ciao.
