Introduction

Posted 04-04-2011 at 11:18 AM by Fracas

I have been a Linux user since 1995. My favorite distro's are Mandrake (now called Mandriva), and Redhat. I was a big believer in a router software called Smoothwall, and was very impressed with it's capabilities. Open source software has become the most powerful software, with the least number of flaws in it, that is available. There are very few commercial offerings that can compare with the open source code. Open source's strength, lies in the number of willing people that work on it and hack at it looking for flaws. The advantage to this approach, is that a very large number of people, contribute to the stability, and security, of the software. Proprietary softwares, rely on obscurity, for security. If you don't know the code involved, you can't break the software. We see so very often that is definitely not the case.
Long Live the open source movement!!
