Command-line control of network activation and deactivation

Posted 12-12-2016 at 12:33 PM by flshope

It took me a while to find this, so I thought I would post it. After searching through various sources, I finally took the time to read all of the hundred or so lines you get from 'apropos network'.

A terminal command to activate or deactive networking is

Code:
nmcli networking on
nmcli networking off
Under Ubuntu I usually depend on a networking control icon that appears on the tool bar of the indicator applet, but sometimes the icon is missing. I prefer to be disconnected from the internet except when I am explicitly using it.
