Build 140831 of SlackEX 14.1 live USB with kernel 3.16.1

Posted 08-31-2014 at 12:05 PM by exton (Exton's Blog)

New features in version 140831 of SlackEX
SlackEX build 140831 comes as a ZIP-file for direct installation to an USB stick. I have replaced kernel 3.14-x86_64-exton with kernel 3.16.1-x86_64-exton with support for “everything”. KDE is downgraded to version 4.10.5 from version 4.11.1. All other component software is also upgraded to the latest Slackware version by now. I may mention in particular GParted 0.17.0 (latest, not in Slackware’s repositories), VirtualBox 4.3.14 (latest, not in Slackware’s...

Run your Slackware 64 bit system with the latest stable kernel – 3.16.1!

Posted 08-23-2014 at 01:57 AM by exton (Exton's Blog)

I have compiled a very useful (as I think) 64 bit kernel for Slackware 12.0 – 14.1 and/or all Slackware derivatives. For example Slax, Zenwalk, SlackEX and Exton|Defender. The kernel is compiled exactly the same way as Slackware’s latest kernel huge. “My” kernel 3.16.1-x86_64-exton has even more support for new hardware, etc. Kernel 3.16.1 is the latest stable kernel available from Kernel.org. Released (20140814).

DebEX KDE, build 140821, with KDE 4.13.3 and kernel 3.16

Posted 08-21-2014 at 08:58 AM by exton (Exton's Blog)

I have made a new version of the extra version of DebEX, wich I call DebEX KDE Live DVD. (The first version is from 140626). It’s a pure Debian system. I.e.: There are no Ubuntu or Kubuntu elements involved. DebEX KDE uses KDE 4.13.3 as Desktop environment. (The latest stable version of KDE). Study the full package list.

Note: There are two versions of DebEX. DebEX Barebone with Xfce 4.10.1 (build 140819)...

DebEX Barebone build 140819

Posted 08-19-2014 at 12:14 PM by exton (Exton's Blog)

The DebEX Barebone ISO is now a ISO-hybrid, which means that it can very easily be transferred to a USB pen drive. You can then even run DebEX Barebone from the USB stick and save all your system changes on the stick. I.e. you will enjoy persistence! Read this INSTRUCTION. NetworkManager has been removed. It doesn’t go together with Wicd when it comes to configuring wireless networks. I’ve added the applications GParted (partition editor), AbiWord, Icedove (Thunderbird) and AlsaPlayer. Study the...

LFA build 140817, 14.04.1, 64 bit, with Unity (Ubuntu) and three other Desktop Environments

LFA (Linux for All) is a remaster of Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS, codenamed Trusty Tahr, released July 25, 2014. The original system includes the Desktop Environment Unity (Ubuntu). I have added LXDE, Razor-qt and XBMC (An award-winning free and open source (GPL) software media player and entertainment hub for digital media) as alternatives, so that everyone on the spot (during live operation) can compare the different four Desktop Environments. The system language is English.
