I've been a user of Gnome since FC1 and just never had a reason to try another desktop. I starting using Linux initially, because windows was so infuriatingly bad. Now it's all about not being forced to use a microsoft product. However, the inclusion of mono in a number of gnome applications bothers me. After reading an up date on the Wine project, I realized the method in which Microsoft will be marginalized. Since Microsoft owns the computing market, developers write code for Windows, hence the lack of Linux software versions. It's a self-feeding system. However, the development of Wine has allowed Linux to be an either/or OS. Not only that, but many windows programs work better under Wine than the real thing.
