Pretty scary stuff to just turn on the computer one morning and not have an OS.

Until developers of programs, such as Vuze and TeamSpeak, improve the ease of installing and updating their own programs, Linux will never rule the computing world or the hearts of its users.

Also, the cryptic, snide replies from smartasses who think they are helping people who are struggling with Linux needs to stop, too. I'm not talking about anyone here, but when I do a web search and read through some of those comments, I just have to shake my head. :( (I am glad to have a forum to go to, such as this one, when I'm struggling with it. Thanks, everyone!)

This is not the beginning of the personal computer age. It is decades after we went through this nonsense initially.

The more things change, the more some things stay the same.

My name is Donald and I have been using Linux as much as possible for the last couple of years, mainly to find a replacement OS for my wife's Linux netbook and to educate myself. I don't really need Linux, but I have spent many years avoiding Windows, since the early '80s, although I have Windows-based computers, too.

A blog, eh? The average blog here has about two posts, so we'll see how well I maintain this. :study:

My most comfortable experience with Linux is based on Gnome and Xfce. KDE and I don't get along (although there are some interesting programs based on it, such as Krita), LXFE is a bit immature still, and plain interfaces, such as Fluxbox, don't really interest me. I have been using computers long enough and most of my computers are powerful enough that I prefer to use programs with a good GUI and it is the best thing to help Linux to grow, too.

Linux Mint is my most used distribution, but I install various distros onto USB sticks and experiment with a bunch of them. Less and less of the smaller distros get my time, though, because they just aren't worth it to me any more.
