Today I turn 1!

Posted 09-13-2010 at 10:44 PM by damgar

I just realized by looking at my details that I have been a regular member of LQ for a year this month. That also happens to coincide with my adoption of linux (Mandriva then, Slackware today). LQ just kept on coming up in google searches and answered so many questions I had to register to cut down on the ads. Happy myLQ Day to you all and thanks Jeremy!

Cats

Posted 08-30-2010 at 11:55 PM by damgar

So my wife decided we needed pets. I thought my kids were all the animals we needed, but she over ruled me. Growing up I always had pets, but we always got them immediately after they were weened. These cats are about 4 months old, and they are just antisocial little things. So far I've had to disassemble the dishwasher to get one out of it's hiding place and put blankets under the recliner to keep people from killing the cats. On the plus side they are litter box trained so all in all it...

DD-WRT and openvpn...........SUCCESS !

Posted 07-20-2010 at 12:34 AM by damgar

Well it took most of my free time today, but I finally got my DD-WRT with openvpn working perfectly. As is often the case with open source (in my experience anyway) the tools were there for the taking, but the directions required a bit of hunting, plus some trial and error. I am posting this with a full tunnel from my neighbor's "borrowed" wifi back to my LAN and back out through my ISP and then back through the tunnel again! I'm really not the paranoid type and mostly wanted access...

Playing with DD-WRT

Posted 07-18-2010 at 10:35 PM by damgar

I've always wanted to play with DD-WRT since I became aware of it's existence. For anyone that doesn't know, it's essentially an embedded linux that you load as firmware on consumer routers. It's not compatible with every model, but the older linksys wrt54g's (the blue and black one's with external antennas) work well for the most part from what I can tell. I happened to come across one a few months ago, and every so often I would see some neat tutorial in the LXer forum, but yesterday I saw...

Arch Linux Update

Posted 07-03-2010 at 12:12 PM by damgar
Updated 07-03-2010 at 12:23 PM by damgar

Well I had a beautifully crafted and well edited blog entry about my experience getting Arch going, but someone ran over a utility pole just as I was hitting "Post Now" so that's my excuse and you can't prove otherwise!

I have actually installed Arch successfully twice at this point, although I had already formatted the first install due to kernel panics at boot, before I bothered to read about Arch's method of initramfs. I was fairly sure it was an initrd issue, but...
