Sometimes the 'easy' way isn't the best way.

I put my openSUSE box on the network using a Comtrend Powerline adaptor. It was connected using an Edimax wireless/usb adaptor which worked OK but wasn't particularly fast or reliable. The connection over the house wiring is much better on both counts.
I found with the Comtrend adaptor that the official way of syncing with the access point adaptor didn't seem to work. What did work perfectly was to go into the adaptor's admin web page and entering the network name and encryption key manually. Having got that set up, I've got to say I'd really recommend this kind of adaptor as a network solution over wireless which seems to be far more suseptible to interference and loss of signal strength over distance/through walls.

I wonder if they're available in the US?
Does anyone reading this have any experience/recommendations w/ an equivalent that would work on this side of the pond?Posted 06-24-2011 at 04:44 PM by archtoad6
