So spring is here, really??

Posted 03-25-2016 at 01:26 PM by onebuck

Hi,

Been home for three weeks today and spring is in the chilly air! Played some senior golf with other members on some warmer days. It's 40° F outside and a bit cold to be on the course.

I have been trying to get things ready for the season. I took my Cub into the shop for some warranty work. Turns out the shop said 'The trans-axle had to be replaced. To much work to just replace the seals and that the time spent would exceed the money earned from the Cub warranty.' Cub Cadet warranty is for three years from date of purchase. I needed the throttle mechanism replaced, it broke late in the season. So all the work will be covered under warranty. You pay for tractor up front but well worth it to me to have a versatile reliable lawn tractor. I cannot hand mow any longer since my health issues prevent walking a mower. I do a lot of work around the house but know my limits.

My steps program averages around 7000 steps/day target. So I really need to get outside often but the cold air causes my Asthma to act up. Even with a breather mask, it can be difficult but looks silly walking around town with that thing on. My Fitbit Charge is a neat way to keep track of my activities. Even using a Golf cart, I usually get 3000+ steps on the course. Tracks elevation changes and calories burned during activities. Even tracks my sleep patterns so I can see if my at rest state changes during the night.

Sure, my iPhone 6s can do the same thing but who would wear that thing to bed? Not me! My wife is socially connected and has that phone by her side 24/7. Rings all the time! So I ask her to keep the iPhone in the kitchen so we do not get anything during the night.

I do not use social networks and wish to keep things to myself. My grandchildren are AOMO (afraid of missing out) so they are constantly texting, Facebook and tweeting even when they do something very personal. One day they will be sorry! SMS and mangled composition will bite them eventually.

What has happened to communication between individuals? I do not text, if the Grand-kids want to interact they know to call me since I do not respond to texts. I do not even respond to my wife when she texts me. She knows that I will respond via voice on phone but not by text.

My mother is nearly deaf, the increase in text based communication has greatly improved her ability to socialize and be social.

It is spring here. If you have allergies. The Hispanics here seem to think Mulberry trees supply the best shade from the sun. Mulberry trees are a allergy sufferers bane.

On the social network thing. All my kids and grandkids gave up paper and telephone voice over their preferred facebook profiles.

So to stay in contact with my kids, brother, neices, grandkids, inlaws.
Everyone except for my Mother. ( I drive a few hundred miles from time to time for face to face for her, because she is important to me)
I keep a facebook account out of necessity. Bowing down to the majority.

My family and friends are large and extended. I enjoy their correspondence from time to time. But I can also be careful on what I post on my profile there. Being a the only linux user in my family and all.

I tend to not over think stuff too much. It keeps me young at heart.
