Another New Toy to Play With

Well, a refurbished one. Although it looks good enough to be new.
A Lenovo Thinkpad T410. With an i5-520 CPU, 8 GB RAM, and a 320 GB HDD, all for £219. Seems like good value for money to me, considering I paid about £199 for a new eee pc 1001ha a few years ago. The T410 has Windows 7 Professional installed, and the C:\ drive (/dev/sda2) is sandwiched between a system partition and a recovery partition. I resized C:\, tried to install Slackware, but had a problem with lilo. So I tried again with grub2, and succeeded. I'll keep 7 'til the next Slackware release, then it and its two friends can go.

Good value bit of kit, as regards Win7 Pro, have to admit that it's my desktop OS of choice, use it at work, use it at home.
Strangely I never got on well with Linux as a desktop replacement even though the day job is server admin and we're 99.99% CentOS.Posted 01-08-2015 at 05:15 AM by TenTenths -
R.I.P Windows 7 Professional. Sorry, but you tried my patience with your updates: 134 yesterday, 52 today. I'd set my preference for "Download but don't install without asking", or whatever it is. Downloading didn't take long, but installation of that 134 took over 2 hours. Anyway, I just couldn't whip up any interest in it, so it's gone. No regrets.

Dual-booting Slack with Debian "Wheezy" on it now.

Changed my mind about dual-booting. Going to use VirtualBox on Slack instead for messing about with other distros.
10/10 for this ThinkPad so far. I like it!Posted 01-16-2015 at 03:53 AM by brianL -

Thanks, now I'll have the Philosopher's Song stuck in my head all day.

Dual-booting with Debian again. "Jessie", with KDE, this time. Seems OK. See how long it lasts.
