Finished the main chapter of X-Windows for BLFS today and fired up the twm (tiling window manager) that is more or less a very basic desktop environment with a few X-Terminals (xterm) open, and got a few more packages built.
I'm now working on the X Forms Common Environment (Xfce) UI to give me a basic desktop environment to work from and after that I'll be looking into the Xfce applications as well.

Isn't TWM "Tab Window Manager" ?

Not Awesome. Examples of tiling WMs are i3, Xmonad, Spectrwm, wmii ...

Well, for accuracy ...
The i3 wm has been "defunct" for quite a while, and "notion" is its replacement, picked up by a different development team (after the i3 author abandoned it), and renamed - rather cleverly, imho - "not-ion"
I don't use "awesome" myself, I've only seen demos of it, which have all used its tiling layout(s), so that's been my only awareness of it - as a tiling wm. The fact that it has other layout options doesn't seem to me to disqualify it, and it does happen to be listed under "tiling window managers" in wikipedia
In reading more about it, seems that awesome may be a quite unique beast, being more of a "framework" allowing the user to mold it into whatever "style" they want, which also seem to include "a tiling wm".Posted 12-03-2014 at 01:28 PM by rk4n3

Oh, for heaven's sake ... I just figured out that I was completely mistaken about i3 ... I confused it with ion3 (the last "named" version of ion). So, to correct myself:
