Chromebook Acer C710-2457
New Netbook
Posting this in ChromeOS. Later I will be documenting my research on how I will enable

Since by my previous studies on this rig of getting a decent Linux install on this rig
has a lot to do with getting a kernel that shows some love for the touchpad.

I used the search term Acer C710 Chromebook in search for LQ Blogs and got nada so I guess
My adventures will be a 1st. I'd rather run AntiX, MX-14, or SolydX on this off of external
class 10 SD card and I might get there, or not.
I am just a Neanderthal Tattooed Knuckle Dragging Self taught Linux using Biker with a GED.
But I can tinker OK.

Crouton is currently broken on both the dev and beta channels of ChromeOS, and will probably be broken on the stable channel with the next update. There are efforts underway to rescue it, but Google's development policies make it problematic for future compatibility. The foolproof way is to just install to a flash drive. A mini-USB drive works well for this. The problem with using an SD card is that the card sticks halfway out of the chromebooks. Why they made that decision, instead of having the card entirely inside the laptop is something that completely escapes me.

Well, on the backburner for the time being as AntiX 14 development takes priority at the present for a while.
Working with releases MX-14 and tweaking AntiX 14 is
time consuming. Lots of one at a time stuff to go through like
Code:-> Command: cp ./usr/share/desktop-defaults /usr/share/desktop-defaults chown root:root /usr/share/desktop-defaults -r ./usr/share/applications/antix ./usr/share/applications/antix/live-usb.desktop ./usr/share/applications/antix/antix-snapshot.desktop ./usr/share/applications/antix/antixsources.desktop ./usr/share/applications/antix/antiXCC.desktop -> Modified: Modified to be included in the antiX menu under applications These are just some random ones I picked to show the actual antiX submenu and how to make it work. -> Command: cp ./usr/share/applications/antix /usr/share/applications/antix chown root:root /usr/share/applications/antix -r

Still testing AntiX 14.
Procrastinating this change over also. Not many kernels in the wild that support these touchpads out of the box yet and only a few choices on what to run and hit and miss maybe since most
out of the box installs are C720 specific.
I be afeared I guess.
My druthers is to run a frugal install with a persistence sd card
without using a usb external mouse in the bag when I boot outside of ChromiumOS.
Then dd to another backup card so if I break it. Just re-clone from the backup card.
I guess I'll stay patient, since that sounds better than being scared.Posted 05-28-2014 at 04:43 PM by rokytnji -
