Default installation of DVD pack openSUSE won't able to play video's of formats *.avi, *.vob, *.flv, *.wmv .... etc.

follow this to install mplayer and play video's in it.

TO install the codecs needed to watch DVDs, handle MP3s, etc. follow this.

1. YaST -> “Software” -> “Software Repositories”
2. Click “Add”
3. Select “Community Repositories”
4. Select “Packman Repository” and “VideoLan Repository”
5. YaST -> “Software” -> “Software Management”
6. Uninstall xine-lib and install libxine1, w32codec-all, libdvdcss,libvdpau1, k3b-codecs, and mplayerplug-in setup

Follow this so that firefox will be able to handle Windows media streams.
7. Open Firefox and type “about:config” into the address bar
8. Right Click -> “New” -> “String”
9. Enter “network.protocol-handler.app.mms”
10. Enter “/opt/kde3/bin/kaffeine” (output of “which kaffeine” at command line)

Now play video's using Mplayer
Code:
$mplayer -vo x11 filename

If you use vlc as your favorite video player ... then install vlc media player.
run vlc with video output x11
Code:
$vlc --vout x11
or else... open your vlc -> preferences -> video output -> x11.

enjoy ..!!!!

    You are the man!! Thank you so much for your prompt and CORRECT reply. Mplayer/smplayer works like a charm after following your advice.

    Many thanks Raju

    You've saved me hours of time and GBs of diskspace converting all my MP3s to OGGs.
