An insecurity complex...

Why is it that so many websites (some hosted for open-source projects), refuse members to use strong passwords? By definition, any password which has nonalphanumeric characters, is more secure than those which don't.
So I find it particularly odd, that systems touting security, are themselves insecure for their primary audience. It's not like the software doesn't exist to allow maximum security for the creation of passwords. So what's the motivation for not implementing that security to it's fullest?
I think every time anyone encounters any insecure site, especially where money is being transacted, should immediately contact the webmaster and ask why are you being required to engage insecure behavior.
I just think that makes sense.

I agree but I think most do not require strong passwords because it makes it harder for the members to remember their passwords. This especially true if they create a new password for each of the sites they are asked to join. Being honest I must have approx. 12 passwords I keep up with and I use the same one on about ten or more sites that I do not consider escentual for my use.

If there were door prises, you would get one!
Hi Larry,
Personally, I think I'm much too trusting with the security of most sites. I'm lazy in maintaining my own security, hoping the sites will take care of it for me. I know that's not the best way to do things, but like I said, I'm lazy!
So I guess that means,
I have the insecurity complex!
