New Blinkenlights II: Blinkenlights vs. Predator

Waaaallll, I now have Slackware 12.2 installed on the Netbook. My promise to keep (and then post) an exhaustive record came to naught, mainly because the process was a tissue of error (e.g. kinda boring unless you are interested in items like "the Slackware CD #2 I burned appeared to have corrupted sectors on it" or "the thing boots so damned fast that I have to be ultrafast to get into the BIOS screens before bloody Windows takes over").

I tried AlienBob's method of creating a bootable USB image and for some reason I could not get it to work. I attribute this to user error. So in the end I installed off the first Slackware CD & once I had networking operational downloaded everything else.

It works like a dream, or rather the dream of a bullet: I'd heard that the Atom processors weren't particularly "robust" but I have found it gives me enough performance boost over my old laptop that I am extremely happy. Slack 12.2, even running KDE, just snaps along.

Getting used to the small keyboard has been fun. I don't have particularly large hands, but I'm a clumsy-ass typist even on a full sized keyboard. The small "Shift" key on the right hand side threw me at first, but my right pinky has managed to kinesthetically "remember" it sufficiently that I now have good success typing. I've been doing my Java homework on the netbook.
