Think before you act, Brian!

Posted 04-20-2010 at 07:58 AM by brianL

Suffered a major disaster late last night. Completely ****ed up my Slack64. Should have run this before I started:
Code:
chmod +x /etc/rc.d/rc.brain
/etc/rc.d/rc.brain start
The trouble began when I read another member's posts about Gnome SlackBuild. I'm not keen on Gnome, but I was in the mood for experimenting, so I gave it a try. Everything installed and worked OK. After playing about with it for a while I decided I didn't really want it. Got a bit reckless, didn't RTFM properly, with the uninstall procedure. Ended up unable to restore Slack to its former state. So I've had to do a re-install, have a fresh start. I thought I'd grown out of the acting-before-I-think habit, but apparently not.

I'm surprised that that's the only big mistake I've made so far.

It's Mercury's (planet) fault... These mistakes seem to be normal thing these days.

I can't help, but feel a little guilty. I'll tone down my enthusiasm in the future.

No, it's not your fault. I accept 100% responsibility for ****ing things up. I've got a nasty habit of skimming through instructions, then doing what I think I've read instead of what I should have done.

Did the same thing recently with one of my FreeBSD desktop install. Took the fool's way of removing a directory and now, I have half a system.

    And thanks for the comments.
