Ubuntu scp stall resolved

Posted 09-24-2008 at 06:34 AM by Vermind

I had been troubled for long by my Ubuntu server not uploading files with scp or rsync properly. The transfers would hang at a little bit over 2MB, and never proceed from there. I asked on the Ubuntu forums about this, and yesterday received a fix suggestion that worked for me. The fix entails adding lines to /etc/sysctl.conf that change the default net and IPv4 behaviour, like so:

Code:
net.core.rmem_default = 524288
net.core.rmem_max = 524288
net.core.wmem_default
...

The pointlessness of gnuCash

gnuCash doesn't work.

I don't mean that if you actually get it compiled and running it doesn't work. I mean it doesn't work to begin with. A program should either be easy to compile and install with minimal fuss or it should be prepackaged binaries to install. gnuCash is neither!

From slackware's end here is a list of required dependencies.
Code:
- libgsf-gnome

Updated 02-21-2009 at 08:50 AM by ErV

[SIZE="5"][b]Making slackware packages from source[/b][/SIZE]

I'm posting this because some people have problems with making packages from source code, and howto where I learned how to do it isn't available anymore.

[color=red][b]WARNING![/b][/color]:
1) howto is pretty short and doesn't dive into details too much (although I initially thought about overview of commonly used build systems).
2) This doesn't work for all packages, only for most...

Restoring the KRDC menu

Posted 03-12-2009 at 10:32 AM by drask

The company I work for is a windows shop. Since I'm a Linux guy and telecommute most of the time, I rely on KVpnc and KRDC to connect to my remote desktop when I need to work with company Windows Only applications.

I recently had a problem with KRDC version 3.93 in OpenSuSE 10.3. When I first started it up, I was playing with the menu options and either clicked on "Settings->Show Menu Bar" or typed CTRL-M to see what would happen. What happened was my main menu disappeared,...
