glxinfo doesn't work in runlevel 3

Posted 12-21-2005 at 05:38 PM by acithium

when i try to run glxinfo in run level 3, i get an "unable to open display (null)" error.
however, when i run it in runlevel 5 it works. Anyone know how to get direct rendering to work in run level 3.

i'm thinking probably the XFS service
it required to start DRI so you can use X

    check for this /etc/rc3.d/S20xfs
add a symlink to this filename if needed

there should be one already in level 4 and 5
    /etc/rc4.d/S20xfs
    /etc/rc5.d/S20xfs

    ln -s /etc/init.d/xfs /etc/rc3.d/S20xfs

There is no S20XFS or anything S##xfs in rc4 or rc5 directory. it is in the /etc/rc.d/ though. However that didn't solve the problem.

    since this a blog questions
    a dont belong here
b wont get you many responses
try moving this to the forums

    but
find what is in level 4 + 5 (glxinfo works in 4 doesnt it?)
    but isnt in level 3

    thats your culprit.

note:i use mandriva and RC directory structure is apparently differs between some distros
