"Systemd sometimes doesn't shutdown" -- collecting links and info

Posted Yesterday at 11:46 PM by the dsc (linux-related notes)

It's very sporadic, somewhat rare, so I won't really open a thread on the forums themselves, but I'll just collect links and snippets here hoping there's some way to fix it, if it doesn't get fixed "by itself"/by systemd/debian developers first.

Quote:
I have Mate desktop and Slim installed:
halt_cmd /sbin/systemctl poweroff -i
reboot_cmd /sbin/systemctl reboot -i
like this, when I request shutdown all applications exit and then slim restart

Itching to write a new GPC article

Posted Yesterday at 05:41 PM by ttk (Unpopular Positions: One Geek's Take)

I wanted to hold off so I could improve my ballistic analysis software, collect more empirical evidence, and learn something about the GPC candidates and legacy cartridge upgrades under development by various military institutions, but these developments have been slow in the coming.

When I've had time to spare...

Use tune2fs, umounted, BEFORE adding journal=writeback on fstab

Posted 01-30-2015 at 11:38 PM by the dsc (linux-related notes)

Can be fixed by booting with a live CD, though.

tune2fs /dev/sd<N> -o journal_data_writeback

Tune2fs' manual warns against doing something like that on a mounted device.
