Run your Slackware 64 bit system with the latest stable kernel – 4.2.2!

Posted Today at 12:32 PM by exton (Exton's Blog)

I have compiled a very useful (as I think) 64 bit kernel for Slackware 12.0 – 14.1 and/or all Slackware derivatives. For example Slax, Zenwalk and SlackEX. The kernel is compiled exactly the same way as Slackware’s latest kernel huge. “My” kernel 4.2.2-x86_64-exton has even more support for new hardware, etc. Kernel 4.2.2 is the latest stable kernel available from Released 20150929.

WHAT’S NEW in kernel 4.2?
One million new lines of code in kernel 4.2! (The biggest...

Ubuntu mini.iso in a Virtualbox v4.3.18 host w\20G hd.
No tasksel packages other than ssh during install.

Docker requires a 64-bit installation regardless of your Ubuntu version.
Additionally, your kernel must be 3.10 at minimum.
The latest 3.10 minor version or a newer maintained version are also acceptable.

apt-get install -y curl && curl -sSL | sh &&

NEWS 151001 ABOUT RaspEX
My first version of RaspEX is from 150318 and my second from 150706. I have now upgraded the whole system. RaspEX is a Linux ARM system for Raspberry Pi 2. It is based on Debian Jessie (Debian 8), Ubuntu Vivid Vervet (Ubuntu 15.04) and Linaro (Open Source software for ARM SoCs). In this new version (151001) I’ve installed Wicd Network Manager and added support for Adobe Flash in Chromium (so you can watch YouTube). I have also installed Samba and VNC4Server so you...

rxvt-unicode - urxvt - utempter patch.

Posted 10-01-2015 at 02:46 AM by MadMaverick9

This patch removes all utmp/wtmp/lastlog related code from rxvt-unicode and replaces it with two calls to utempter_add_record and utempter_remove_record.

Why am I posting this here? Because neither nor allow attaching patch/diff files to posts/comments. They only allow image files to be attached, which is very surprising esp. with regards to, which is supposed to be a website for programmers/developers.

Thank you very much Jeremy....

Semi-auto-generated, nicely formatted, apropos-like list of your custom bash functions

Posted 10-01-2015 at 12:35 AM by the dsc (linux-related notes)

bold=$(tput bold)
normal=$(tput sgr0)

lsfunctions ()
tail -n+10 /path/to/custom-bash-functions | grep "()" | sort | sed 's|(.*#||'  | sed "s|^|${bold}|;s|\ |${normal}\ |"
↑ Change the number "10" to whichever line you want to start grepping the functions

"lsfunctions" would be like "apropos /usr/bin/*", or whatever really works, but restricted to your custom...
