Fortunately BSD is still an alternative.

Posted Today at 12:46 AM by Randicus Draco Albus

I have not spent much time on LQ since moving to BSD, but I decided to add to my blog, just because.

With the development direction Linux has been moving along for the last few years, it is nice to see there is still an option for people looking for an alternative, not a freeware Windows clone. Hopefully, BSD will not follow Linux down the road of Windows emulation. I know most LQ members will disagree with my assessment, but that is the world through my eyes.

Android-x86 KitKat 4.4.4 build 5 with kernel 4.0.0-exton-android-x86 and GAPPS

Posted Yesterday at 06:31 AM by exton (Exton's Blog)

ABOUT
Android-x86 KitKat 4.4.4 Exton build version 5 is a total rebuild. The system can run live (from CD or a USB stick) on almost all laptops (and some Desktop computers). For example Acer (Aspire), HP, Samsung, Dell, Toshiba, Lenovo, Thinkpad, Fujitsu, Panasonic and Ausus laptops. The Android system is distributed in the form of an ISO file as the rest of my Linux distributions. I.e. you must (as usual) burn the ISO file to a CD if you want to run the system live on your computer or install...

AndEX (Android-x86) Lollipop 5.0.2 with Google Play Store and other GAPPS – now (almost) error-free

Posted 05-05-2015 at 12:00 PM by exton (Exton's Blog)

NEWS 150505 about AndEX – THE ULTIMATE EDITION
My new build of Android-x86 Lollipop 5.0.2 has GAPPS pre-installed. I.e. Google Play Services, Google Play Store, Google+, Maps, YouTube and more apps. The ISO is called android-x86-5.0.2-lollipop-GAPPS-exton-782mb-150505.iso. I call it The Ultimate Edition because AndEX 150505 is (almost) error-free. I finally managed to install Google Play Services, which is needed for Google Play Store to run. You shall always use Google Play Store in AndEX...

64-bit utilities (includes mc2-64 bit)

Updated 05-04-2015 at 02:35 PM by rainbowsally (Uninstaller fixed and uploaded, mc2 build bugs fixed)

We'd better tool up. The old mc2 was for 32-bits. There are a few bugs in it but it should work for those needing 32 bit compilation on a 64 bit machine.

[Note: May 4, Found installer bugs in the mc2 src d/load. Path to panic version of mc2 was added so the stuff could update before being installed and pkg-config string replaces individual includes and libs now. Sorry about that. Should work now.]

But today's amazing journey into Mad Computer Science is...

An Experiment: From C Definitions To Templates

An Experiment: From C Definitions To Templates

This is a tangent, but a forgivable one, no?

Today's mind-blowing Mad Computer Science features:
  • An experiment morphing a regular old C style set of functions into a set of C++ templates.
  • We rename a literal parameter type to a template parameter T and voila!
  • This will help demystify the horrible noise in the messy STL templates by making a simple transition from main_1 to main_2, in which error messages from the compiler
