SlackBuild for gpsd

Posted 06-14-2011 at 02:25 PM by 55020
Updated 06-15-2011 at 02:39 PM by 55020 (URL fixed)

There's recently been a long running thread in which xj25vm has explored the possibilities of getting gpsd to start on demand in Slackware, both when USB GPS devices are hotplugged (plugged into an already booted system) and when coldplugged (discovered by the system at boot).

The core difficulty to be overcome was that the gpsd daemon wants to read from a control socket which is created on the fly by a helper when the hotplugged or coldplugged device triggers an action in udev....

Notes on using LFS Chapter 5 to build a Slackware toolchain

Updated 10-13-2010 at 04:43 PM by 55020 (Doh! Right at the end, should be 'find $LFS...')

This is a brief set of notes on bootstrapping a self-hosting Slackware toolchain, using the process described in Chapter 5 of the LFS Book. Future notes will cover LFS Chapter 6, and then the rest of Slackware (or some of it, anyway).

The motivation for doing this arises out of a number of recent threads on the LQ Forum, but it's also just a generally cool thing to do.

SlackBuilds for qgis and gdal

Posted 06-29-2010 at 06:00 AM by 55020

Here's some news on two of the SlackBuilds I maintain at SlackBuilds.org.

qgis

It appears that the update of SIP in Slackware 13.1 (which occurred quite late in the -current cycle) exposed some breakage in the qgis build system. The consequence is that the current SBo-13.1 "BUILD=1" qgis-1.4.0 script builds without Python support. Unfortunately this means that a lot of qgis plugin functionality is disabled.

The problem is known upstream....
