New features in version 141220 of SlackEX
SlackEX build 141220 comes as a ZIP-file for direct installation to a USB stick. I have replaced kernel 3.16.1-x86_64-exton with kernel 3.18.1-x86_64-exton with support for “everything”.

KDE is downgraded to version 4.10.5 from version 4.11.1. All other component software is also upgraded to the latest Slackware version by now. I may mention in particular GParted 0.17.0 (latest, not in Slackware’s repositories), VirtualBox 4.3.20...

Scaling out my Banana Pi server cluster

Posted 12-19-2014 at 08:36 AM by Pyplate
Updated 12-19-2014 at 03:14 PM by Pyplate

I've updated Pyplate to support multiple sites on a single server. Each site has its own Pyplate CMS directory, its own web root directory and its own set of tables in the database. The tables for each site are prefixed with the domain name of the site (with '_' replacing '.').

The database is stored on a MySQL database cluster using master/slave replication, so the tables for each site are accessible from each database server node.

I've dropped the idea of using...

Run your Slackware 64 bit system with the latest stable kernel – 3.18.1!

Posted 12-18-2014 at 03:18 PM by exton (Exton's Blog)

I have compiled a very useful (as I think) 64 bit kernel for Slackware 12.0 – 14.1 and/or all Slackware derivatives. For example Slax, Zenwalk, SlackEX and Exton|Defender. The kernel is compiled exactly the same way as Slackware’s latest kernel huge. “My” kernel 3.18.1-x86_64-exton has even more support for new hardware, etc. Kernel 3.18.1 is the latest stable kernel available from Kernel.org. Released 20141216.

Passing some mplayer options to smplayer from command line

Posted 12-18-2014 at 01:56 PM by the dsc (linux-related notes)
Updated Today at 12:19 AM by the dsc (fixing the method)

Major edit:

Apparently the best way to go is to dinamically edit or switch/rename the smplayer.ini file, in the following line:

Code:
mplayer_additional_options=--ss=<seconds> -af scaletempo -speed <speed>
It probably requires that the options aren't set elsewhere in the GUI's settings.

The the original post remains below, just in case there's still something useful.

PS.: the time "grepping"...

DebEX KDE live with KDE 4.14.2 and kernel 3.18.0-7-exton (3.18)

Posted 12-16-2014 at 10:43 AM by exton (Exton's Blog)

NEWS 141216
I have made a new version of DebEX KDE Live DVD. It replaces version 140821. It’s a pure Debian 8 system. I.e.: There are no Ubuntu or Kubuntu elements involved. DebEX KDE uses KDE 4.14.2 as Desktop environment. (The second latest stable version of KDE) and kernel 3.18.0-7-exton. (Kernel.org's latest kernel 3.18). I have installed Nvidia’s proprietary graphic driver 340.65 - latest. All other installed packages have also been updated to the latest version of 141216. Study the...
