One of those days (rant)

Posted 10-19-2014 at 08:50 PM by rocket357 (Musings on technology, philosophy, and life in the corporate world)

Ever have one of those days where you want to grab people, shake them within an inch of their lives, and scream in their face "WWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKKKE UUUUUUUUUUUUUUPPPP!!"??

I'm having one of those days. I read a debate earlier where one side was arguing that RMS has saved us from proprietary control and all that jazz.

Really? It's 2014. 2004 wants its punchline back.

I challenge ANY of you to a simple task. I challenge you to fork a GPL project,...

A brand new version of ExTiX Light
My new lighter version of ExTiX is now based on Ubuntu 14.10 Utopic Unicorn. It uses Razor-qt as Desktop Environment, Slim as Login Manager and kernel 3.16.0-21-exton, equivalent to Kernel.org’s stable kernel 3.16.4, released 141005. (Razor-qt is an advanced, easy-to-use, and fast desktop environment based on Qt technologies. It has been tailored for users who value simplicity, speed, and an intuitive interface). All packages in ExTiX Light 14.2 have been...

Slackware-14.1-Privoxy 3.0.21

Posted 10-19-2014 at 04:47 PM by arniekat

Source - http://www.privoxy.org/ and Wikipedia

Privoxy is a Privacy Enhancing Non-Caching Web Proxy with Advanced Filtering Capabilities. You can chain Privoxy with Polipo. Privoxy can also be chained with Squid, which in turn can use a URL Filter Solution. This solution can be used to filter unwanted content and Internet Junk for say, a Family Computer or your own Personal Computer. I think it is a fairly nice solution for the following reasons:

CruxEX (CRUX 3.1) live USB, build 141017, with kernel 3.17.1

Posted 10-17-2014 at 02:24 PM by exton (Exton's Blog)

CruxEX 3.1 2014 64 bit Linux Live USB is based on CRUX 3.1 (latest version, released 140716), which is all Linux enthusiasts/nerds favorite OS. (CRUX 3.1 is a lightweight Linux distribution for the x86_64 architecture targeted at experienced Linux users). CruxEX 3.1 2014 uses the LXDE Desktop environment. I have replaced the original CRUX kernel 3.12.24 with “my” special kernel 3.17.1-x86_64-cruxex, with support for “extra everything”.

Run your Slackware 64 bit system with the latest stable kernel – 3.17.1!

Posted 10-15-2014 at 05:13 PM by exton (Exton's Blog)

I have compiled a very useful (as I think) 64 bit kernel for Slackware 12.0 – 14.1 and/or all Slackware derivatives. For example Slax, Zenwalk, SlackEX and Exton|Defender. The kernel is compiled exactly the same way as Slackware’s latest kernel huge. “My” kernel 3.17.1-x86_64-exton has even more support for new hardware, etc. Kernel 3.17.1 is the latest stable kernel available from Kernel.org. Released today (141015).
