Why "easy" distributions are difficult

In retrospect, I wonder why so many seasoned users have (over the years) recommended me to go for "easy" distros, that have been "scientifically" designed for all users. I wish somebody had told me to go for the "hard" ones. That would have saved me a lot of pain.
My problem with the "easy" distros has been that everything would be fine at the beginning and all I needed to know was point-and-click sequences in order to start working. Maybe some basic...

Tiny optimizations that you might forget every time you (re)install linux

I don't (re)install that often, so I completely forgot there were some types video-acceleration options that could be set in a tiny xorg.conf to speed things up a little. Fortunately it's a paralell install to one I'm sort of abandoning, so I still have it:

Chromium/chrome adobe flash player. That was confusing

I was trying to install flashplayer on chromium by symlinking with chrome's flashplayer, then I found out that you actually need to point out as flags something like "flashplayerpath=path" and also a version flag for some reason. Somewhere it was suggested that you could add it to a /etc/chromium-browser/default file that exists, and by deafult does nothing, but has a "CHROMIUMFLAGS" variable "set as empty".

Then I came up with a grep/sed line to get...

Gosh I hae not logged in a long time, need to look and see what is in the forums.
Passed on getting an RPI zero,because by the time you get the cables you are better off just gett9ing an a except for the speed boost.
The most recent version of raspian seems to be more stable.
Been running kodi in the living room.. kind of neat. Makes up for not having an appletv or roku box.
