Step By Step Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) LAMP Server Setup

Posted Today at 05:17 AM by sridhar11

In around 15 minutes, the time it takes to install Ubuntu Server Edition, you can have a LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP) server up and ready to go. This feature, exclusive to Ubuntu Server Edition, is available at the time of installation. The LAMP option means you don’t have to install and integrate each of the four separate LAMP components, a process which can take hours and requires someone who is skilled in the installation and configuration of the individual applications. Instead, you get...

KDE's "ark" as a command-line universal (un)archiver

Tags ark, zip

For some reason I was having issues with some zip files. "Unzip" wouldn't unzip them, but ark (and perhaps other GUI archivers) would.

Fortunately ark can be used as a command line tool as well, which can be better than needlessly opening the full GUI just to make something so trivial. You still can invoke just the dialog, anyway.

But in order to extract something, for example, one can just use:

ark -b file.zip -o ./extantfolder

Run your Slackware 64 bit system with the latest stable kernel – 3.15.6!

Posted 07-28-2014 at 11:32 AM by exton (Exton's Blog)

I have compiled a very useful (as I think) 64 bit kernel for Slackware 12.0 – 14.1 and/or all Slackware derivatives. For example Slax, Zenwalk, SlackEX and Exton|Defender. The kernel is compiled exactly the same way as Slackware’s latest kernel huge. “My” kernel 3.15.6-x86_64-exton has even more support for new hardware, etc. Kernel 3.15.6 is the latest stable kernel available from Kernel.org. Released (20140717).

CruxEX 3.1 2014 64bit Linux Live USB is based on CRUX 3.1 (latest version, released 140716), which is all Linux enthusiasts/nerds favorite OS. (CRUX 3.1 is a lightweight Linux distribution for the x86-64 architecture targeted at experienced Linux users). CruxEX 3.1 2014 uses the LXDE Desktop environment. I have replaced the original CRUX kernel 3.12.24 with “my” special kernel 3.15.6-x86_64-exton, with support for “extra everything”. Kernel 3.15.6 is the latest available stable kernel...
