One of our volunteers has a Sony Vaio tiny laptop (the type now known as 'netbook'), several years old, given to her by a friend-- but with the hard drive removed (presumably to protect data). The last time I posted about printing I thought my problems were solved with 2 Puppy boxes telling the Mepis box where the printer was...

But shortly after that, Mepis decided the printer was attached to a Puppy box, and of course couldn't print...again!

So now we have 3 Puppy boxes...and they all know where the printer is, woof!

Like most people I have a keyboard with the extra keys that Microsoft introduced, and I like to set these up to do useful things for me in my KDE4 desktop.

At the moment my preference is to set the left key to bring up the often-used 'Run Command' dialogue, and the right key to pop down my Yakuake console.

However, typically if you go to System Settings > Keyboard & Mouse > Global Keyboard Shortcuts and try to set either of the Windows keys as custom shortcuts...

In the end I gave up on Slackware 12.2 and downloaded and installed Slackware 13. It works and has got the network.

I really don't know what was happening with 12.2 and I'm disappointed to have had to give up, but I have a lot of studying to do and can't spare the time to work at making the laptop work.

What I miss is learning how that interface stuff works at a fundamental level because I would like to understand...
