Playing with parsing

Playing with parsing

Today's features:
  • Creating an extensible mid-level parser that makes sense in C.
  • Looking at BNF-like syntax and C syntax similarities.
  • Tossing flex as far as we can throw it. While its still burning.

The file set here isn't 'finalized' in any way but it's been stable for a few days. These examples are therefor not about THIS set of functions but about parsing in general, although this file set will very likely be part of the mc2 parsing system...

New-Make And MC2, Meet MPG123 (terminal app to play MP3 and other file formats)

Updated 08-06-2014 at 08:47 AM by rainbowsally (wrong acronym for alsa)

After that last rant about screwy software, I found some GREAT software. mpg123 is outstanding.

Today's Features
  • Me eating my words, even about assembler coding. ;-)

Famous last words galore! I even have to eat my words about asm. In fact this app is so cool I had to add the ability to compile asm and C sources in the same directory to the mc2 code.

MPG123 (sandboxed relocatable binary installation OR compile from code, modify, experiment, etc.) is linked...

STL Template Experiment (Lists)

Posted 12-24-2012 at 10:24 AM by rainbowsally
Updated 08-06-2014 at 09:00 AM by rainbowsally (added link, grammar error, makefile line correction)

We've resurrected some dead code that was pretty ugly but the only worse MESS (officially sanctioned, no less) than STL that we've ever seen is the spaghetti in lex/flex output. -- The Computer Mad Science Dept.

So...

Now what?

Well...

...what would ANY good Computer Mad Scientist do in a situation like this?

Today's features are
  • Creating lists using the std::list STL template.
  • Identifying the critical 'operators'

More (Generic) Tools

Behind the scenes, some of the more complex tools are getting incorporated into lq-qt-mc2. Should have an upload in a day or two. lq-find will kock your socks off.. now tuned up and ready for the big time. :-) v. 3.0.14 coming soon.

Today's Features
  • Create a shortcut with a shortcut icon, directories - OK!
  • Another new.<utility> using the mc2 extras demo (env-replace)
  • Revisiting the utility to create a self extractor using base64

An STL Template Experiment

Posted 12-18-2012 at 05:05 PM by rainbowsally

Today's features:
  • Getting an address of an iterator from stl.
  • Creating a foreach() macro.
  • A couple of ways to work around unwanted C++ compiler warnings.

STL is a freaking nighmare to trace in a debugger so it's not too easy to tell what goes on in them but one thing became quite clear and that is that iterators are generic pointer types internally, which makes sense since STL needs to deal with so many different types.

Here's a little test to play with to show how...
